What do I need to get set up in business?
You need a water immersion tank, for starters. Smaller operations can use one of our four different sizes of manual tanks (manual meaning water immersion by hand). The size of the tank is determined by the size of the parts you expect to do. You need training, as well, which we provide. You also will need an open face spray booth for spraying primer and base paint and matte clears, and an enclosed spray booth for shooting high gloss clears. We have made specially designed booths that are smaller than traditional car paint booths to reduce the air flow when working with smaller parts, and you can purchase these from us as well. After you’re trained, you’ll need the water based paints used for this process, activator, and film, all of which we provide.
I wonder if there’s a market in my area for this process?
Since this process can be used on almost any hard surfaced part known to man, there’s always a market for it. This process is used in dozens of industries, such as automotive customizing, motorcycles, ATVs, marine, custom aircraft manufacturers, on hunting equipment, home décor, restaurant décor, and much more. The list is endless.
Is the process hard to do?
If you’re not properly trained, yes, it can be hard to do. Some customers (especially ones who are already into some kind of coating/painting process) want to skip the training. Bad idea. This is something that you learn by eye, knowing how much activator to spray on the film, when the film is ready so that you can dip the part, etc. And if you haven’t been trained, you don’t know what is acceptable and what isn’t acceptable in a finished part. You might think a part looks good, but since you don’t have a good basis of comparison, an experienced processor could look at it and start pointing out flaws that you didn’t realize were unacceptable. With just a day or two of training, this alleviates the learning curve a great deal and ensures that we keep the industry standards at a high level.
Can I come visit you to see what this is all about and how it works?
Certainly, we would love to have you come visit and answer any questions you may have.
Do we have to sign a contract with your company that we won’t purchase materials from any other company?
No, we do not believe in controlling our customers’ businesses. Of course we want you to purchase all your film from us, but if you have a need for a particular film and another company carries it, you should have the right to buy from whom you want. But please let us know if you’re not finding what you’re looking for, as we’re adding about ten new films to our in-stock inventory a month, and are developing new films (especially camos) all the time.
Do I have to purchase a license from you in order to buy your film?
No, again, we don’t believe someone should have to pay a licensing fee or be unnecessarily bound in order to do business with us.
Is there a licensing fee or royalties with your branded films, like Predator, Image Country, or God’s Country Camo?
No. We don’t believe in dictating to our customers what types of parts they can decorate or charging extra for royalties. There is just a small upcharge per meter of film for these, and you can decorate anything you want, no extra expense, and no hassles. The above-mentioned camo companies have you sign a license (just because they like to know who’s using their film) but there’s no cost involved. Plus we are developing new camos all the time, some branded and some non branded.
What if I want to build my own tank?
Here’s the deal; just like we wouldn’t sell film and activator to someone who refused to come for training, we also feel the same way about the tanks, and here’s why. I understand that there are a lot of pretty handy people out there at building things, but the positioning of the heating elements, the pump, the filter bank, etc. are actually pretty important to the end result. We can’t troubleshoot with you over the phone if you’re having issues without knowing what you’re dealing with. We also have a responsibility to our current customers and the industry as a whole to establish some parameters to ensure that our processors turn out quality product.
Is there someone in my area doing this process?
Usually the answer’s going to be no, sometimes yes. But it’s a non-issue, for the most part. People don’t understand that the market is so wide-open with possibilities about the types of parts that can be done, all the different images that can be put on parts, all the different industries that can be approached, that competition shouldn’t be an issue. I could have three processors on the same street, all doing different industries, or even in the same industry, but in different niches. And quite frankly, competition is good, it makes you work harder and the status quo to be elevated.
Yes. We work with two different leasing companies and I can provide you with applications for them.
What happens if I’m running into trouble water immersion parts and don’t know what to do?
Call us. Usually we can trouble shoot the issue over the phone, or you can e-mail us pictures of what’s happening or even a short video, and we can tell you what you need to adjust quite successfully, and we’re happy to do this, day or night. I always tell customers, don’t burn through half a roll of film and get frustrated, just call us! That’s what we’re here for.
